Sleep well. Your National Guard is awake. But not too well, if you live on the border. Your Guardsman is not asleep, but through no fault of his own he's missing in action.

The Bush administration promised to put 2,500 Guardsmen on the Mexican border by the end of June, and 6,000 by the end of July, and June is gone and fewer than a thousand Guardsmen are in place. The president asked the 50 states to send troops but so far only 10 have agreed.

"It's not a combat priority," says Kristine Munn, a spokeswoman at the National Guard Bureau in Washington. "It's a volunteer mission, so it's a question of balancing the needs of the Border Patrol with the needs of 54 states and territories, and all the balls roll in different directions." Yep, these are the people who say they can identify illegal aliens and tell us exactly how long each has been in this country. Then they'll be able to issue ONLY the free benefits to them that the liberals believe the illegals deserve.

'Scuse me for my skepticism. I'm feeling doubtful about their administering any program concerning illegals since their hearts aren't in keeping ANYONE out and, hate to mention it again but, they can't even seem to order the National Guard to the border in a timely fashion--as promised previously.

Let's deal with getting the borders secured and see how long that job will take the bumbly beauracrats. No amnesty, no guest workers, no, no, no, no!

Supreme Court Gives US Rights To Its Enemy Combatants

I'm not so disappointed about the way the Supreme Court decision on Osama's driver went yesterday when it ruled that President Bush overstepped his authority in ordering military war crimes trials for Guantanamo Bay detainees.

I don't agree that this is a Constitutional Issue coming under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court (or the World Court for that matter)--or that President Bush overstepped his authority in this case. The driver of the madman who ordered the disaster on our soil on 9-11-01 gets our Constitutional protection as if he were a US citizen? Hogwash! That's like giving US Constitutional protection to those who bombed Pearl Harbor. We went to world war over that one. But...

The President can go back to Congress to get the “tools he needs"-–or he can simply ignore the ruling.

After all, he's the Commander in Chief. He has the power to order appropriate treatment of captured islamofascist terrorists and their cohorts.

And, military tribunals aren’t the only answer as to what to do with those at Gitmo. This is a war on terror, so until the end of this war, the US should hold the captured in Gitmo.

The ruling opined that they could be held until hostilities cease. So, what's the hurry? I don't seriously want those guys out running around free. It's a lot more efficient to hold them than to free them, catch them again, free them, catch them again and again, and again.

Those who have been freed have run right out immediately upon release and gotten involved in terrorist activities. So keep 'em caged--where I think they belong anyway. If the islamofascists want to drag this on forever, we can hold them in captivity however long that may take.

The Geneva convention? When one side hides behind its women and children and does not even wear identification (unless you count masks and birkas) much less agree to the Geneva convention accords? How foolish could we be?

And then the MSM demands the fascists have the same rights to a defense as American citizens? Only if we are crazy enough to give them “our” rights.

What do illegal alien advocates do . . . even when they get their way?

They resort to violence and punch their opponents.

That's what happened to Joseph Turner, who is trying to get an initiative on the ballot to make it illegal for San Bernardino, California residents and businesses to hire, rent to, or provide other services to illegal aliens. A judge ruled he did not have enough signatures, but the illegal alien spokesman punched him anyway (with no provocation).

Tom Tancredo Buzz

Tom Tancredo would say (besides maybe that I'm presumptious putting words in his mouth) that guy (above) wants things America can offer him, but doesn't really want to become an American.

Coup d'Etat By The NYT?

The NYT should have its credentials revoked--or withdrawn as the NRO Editors say in an editorial dated June 26. Freedom of speech or expression shouldn't include Freedom to Aid and Abet the Enemy During Time of War.

We can take legal action against them too. It's a good idea--people need to know that different rules will be invoked during war time.

The enemy gets our top secrets from our "paper of record?" Shouldn't be possible. Those who write the stories that reveal top secrets are helping Radical Islamic Men outmaneuver us, putting American and Coalition lives at risk.

The paper has overstayed its welcome as the paper of record of the USA. I'm encouraging everyone who values our freedoms and our way of life to stop reading it, stop buying it, stop referring to it, and stop giving it the reverence that it generally gets from the public and other media.

I'm calling on all media to no longer refer to stories written in the NYT. Just don't do it! Advertisers stop advertising in the Times. Further, the general public should write to the advertisers and make their feelings about the Times' disloyal practices known.

Who am I to ask these things? I'm a legal citizen of this country. I love our freedoms and I want our children and grandchildren to have the same freedoms this generation enjoys. At least five generations of my family have fought for and defended this country and its freedoms.

I'm a person who is irate that we now seem to think that loyalty to country and obeying its laws is optional as the NYT certainly does.

I don't want tyranny and chaos to prevail in the USA of the future. I want order, civility, personal honor and responsibility instead.

I don't want the rights of the individual to trump those of the greater good. If we have no United States and no greater good, we have no free society. And I don't want the New York Times to further our demise by aiding our enemy's goal of ending western life and our freedoms--even if they seem Hell-bent to do so.


Just a thought...

As you know, one of the first things that is overtaken in a political coup is the media. The malignant left has become so blinded by its hate for George Bush that its judgment has been impaired. It's become anti-American instead of anti-Bush (its political opponent). Its desperation to beat Bush's heir apparent in the next election and to discredit his Presidency in the process has blinded his opposition into a state of self-destruction. They hate GWB so much they can't see straight and yet they still can't get anything right.

Well, the anti-Americans have taken over the MSM and they're well on their way of taking over our "paper of record." Some think it's a done deal. What does it look like to you? The United States of America? Or the Disloyal Media State?

I'm counting on the public getting it right and straightening out the self-serving blowhards before it's too late to save ourselves. God knows our forefathers have left the necessary systems for us to follow.

This is a must read by all Americans. History will honor its insight. However, I'm certain that Winston Churchill is turning over in his grave at the thought of what's become of Europe and the EU.

It's fascinating that this should come out of Europe. Matthias Dapfner, Chief Executive of the huge German publisher Axel Springer AG, wrote a blistering attack in Die Welt, Germany's largest daily paper, on 20 November 2004 against the timid reaction of Europe in the face of the Islamic threat. A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Welt am Sonntag, "Europe — your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true.

Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound to toothless agreements.

Appeasement legitimized and stabilized Communism in the Soviet Union, then East Germany, then all the rest of Eastern Europe where for decades, inhuman, suppressive, murderous governments were glorified as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities.

Appeasement crippled Europe when genocide ran rampant in Kosovo, and, even though we had absolute proof of ongoing mass-murder, we Europeans debated and debated and debated, and were still debating when finally the Americans had to come from halfway around the world, into Europe yet again, and do our work for us.

Rather than protecting democracy in the Middle East, European appeasement, camouflaged behind the fuzzy word "equidistance," now countenances suicide bombings in Israel by fundamentalist Palestinians.

Appeasement generates a mentality that allows Europe to ignore nearly 500,000 victims of Saddam's torture and murder machinery and, motivated by the self-righteousness of the peace-movement, has the gall to issue bad grades to George Bush... Even as it is uncovered that the loudest critics of the American action in Iraq made illicit billions, no, TENS of billions, in the corrupt U. N. Oil-for-Food program.

And now we are faced with a particularly grotesque form of appeasement. How is Germany reacting to the escalating violence by Islamic fundamentalists in Holland and elsewhere? By suggesting that we really should have a "Muslim Holiday" in Germany.

I wish I were joking, but I am not. A substantial fraction of our (German) Government, and if the polls are to be believed, the German people, actually believe that creating an Official State "Muslim Holiday" will somehow spare us from the wrath of the fanatical Islamists.

One cannot help but recall Britain's Neville Chamberlain waving the laughable treaty signed by Adolph Hitler, and declaring European "Peace in our time".

What else has to happen before the European public and its political leadership get it? There is a sort of crusade underway, an especially perfidious crusade consisting of systematic attacks by fanatic Muslims, focused on civilians, directed against our free, open Western societies, and intent upon Western Civilization's utter destruction.

It is a conflict that will most likely last longer than any of the great military conflicts of the last century - a conflict conducted by an enemy that cannot be tamed by "tolerance" and "accommodation" but is actually spurred on by such gestures, which have proven to be, and will always be taken by the Islamists for signs of weakness.

Only two recent American Presidents had the courage needed for anti-appeasement: Reagan and Bush.

His American critics may quibble over the details, but we Europeans know the truth. We saw it first hand: Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War, freeing half of the German people from nearly 50 years of terror and virtual slavery. And Bush, supported only by the Social Democrat Blair, acting on moral conviction, recognized the danger in the Islamic War against democracy. His place in history will have to be evaluated after a number of years have passed.

In the meantime, Europe sits back with charismatic self-confidence in the multicultural corner, instead of defending liberal society's values and being an attractive center of power on the same playing field as the true great powers, America and China.

On the contrary, we Europeans present ourselves, in contrast to those "arrogant Americans", as the World Champions of "tolerance", which even Otto Schily justifiably criticizes.

Why?

Because we're so moral? I fear it's more because we're so materialistic, so devoid of a moral compass.

For his policies, Bush risks the fall of the dollar, huge amounts of additional national debt, and a massive and persistent burden on the American economy, because unlike almost all of Europe, Bush realizes what is at stake — literally everything.

While we criticize the "capitalistic robber barons" of America because they seem too sure of their priorities, we timidly defend our Social Welfare systems. Stay out of it! It could get expensive! We'd rather discuss reducing our 35-hour workweek or our dental coverage, or our 4 weeks of paid vacation, or listen to TV pastors preach about the need to "Reach out to terrorists, to understand and forgive".

These days, Europe reminds me of an old woman who, with shaking hands, frantically hides her last pieces of jewelry when she notices a robber breaking into a neighbor's house.

Appeasement? Europe, thy name is Cowardice.

Not Our Equal

When I look around, I see the increase in "terrorist sleeper types" in my area. The PC crowd wants us not to notice.

They want to say that even noticing a large influx of ethnic faces (illegal and legal) not previously seen in our communities makes us biogoted. Well, I see allowing enforcement of current immigration laws shunned and discouraged by this administration. I see us pretending to be politically correct so as not to offend anyone--even lawless illegal aliens--and about half of us think it's a good thing to eradicate all standards and personal boundaries. As though an insult to a person's character is more hurtful to our future than the lawless behavior of those who have no respect for our country's laws and societal order.

I see our troops abroad fighting the enemy while too many of our citizens at home are still convinced we are only in a police action against criminals, instead of in a world war against terrorists. And I see the same fools wanting to give our prisoners of war and detainees defense lawyers, as though they were citizens of our Country. During a war! When in history did any country give prisoners of war lawyers to defend themselves at any time, much less during the actual war?

I see our military valiantly carrying out its mission against an evil terroristic enemy in spite of many of our own countrymen's attempts to thwart their efforts--even imprisoning our own marines, shackled, in worse surroundings than that in which the enemy terrorists are held.

I see our network media intimidated into political correct--and even sympathetic--broadcasting of stories about our terrorist enemy.

I see many of our own Congressmen and Senators undermining our troops at war with self-serving politically advancing speeches.

I see a court system filled with judges who too often ignore the Constitution, reinventing justice in their own convoluted image.

I see a public educational system that brainwashes our children with an untrue accounting of historical facts about our Country and its forefathers, with both omissions and inaccuracies that further its own radical political agenda. I see the same educational institution slanting current events to further the same agenda.

I see a nation of self-involved parents willing to defer to agenda-driven strangers the raising of their children, granting them primary influence over their children's values, beliefs, standards, and sexual orientation.

I see people who have been intimidated into accepting passively whatever lop-sided values the ACLU and other malignant leftists blast into their living rooms through agenda-setting television advertisements and entertainment programming.

I see a nation that, instead of concentrating on providing equal opportunity to all races, nationalities, and both sexes, defers in almost every instance to the whim of any and every individual in any and every minority group--at the expense of the majority and the greater good.

I see our churches handing themselves over to organizations that want them impotent and powerless, like the NCC and the WCC.

I see a nation of ostriches too short-sighted, self-absorbed, and afraid to look at what they are really seeing happening, to take self-preserving action.

I see a proud and strong 230-year-old nation of united citizens that needs to wake up soon if it doesn't want to find itself careening toward mach speed self-destruction.

For it won't be the terrorists that do us in. We are far too powerful and they are not our equal. It will be the dividing and conquering that will do us in. It will be the pitting of American against American--it's that simple.

I'm still waiting for the MSM to cover this story. Fox News got the scoop on EVERYONE else--again? Boy they must be good! The real questions has always been, besides Syria, "Where did Saddam hide them or where did he move them?" More WMD's to come, I'm sure, though we--out here in TV land--may need to keep our eyes and ears pealed to get the story. The MSM isn't going to do any investigative reporting on this one!

WASHINGTON — The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers said Wednesday.

"We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons," Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said in a quickly called press conference late Wednesday afternoon.

Reading from a declassified portion of a report by the National Ground Intelligence Center, a Defense Department intelligence unit, Santorum said: "Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq's pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist."

He added that the report warns about the hazards that the chemical weapons could still pose to coalition troops in Iraq.

"The purity of the agents inside the munitions depends on many factors, including the manufacturing process, potential additives and environmental storage conditions. While agents degrade over time, chemical warfare agents remain hazardous and potentially lethal," Santorum read from the document.

"This says weapons have been discovered, more weapons exist and they state that Iraq was not a WMD-free zone, that there are continuing threats from the materials that are or may still be in Iraq," said Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

The weapons are thought to be manufactured before 1991 so they would not be proof of an ongoing WMD program in the 1990s. But they do show that Saddam Hussein was lying when he said all weapons had been destroyed, and it shows that years of on-again, off-again weapons inspections did not uncover these munitions.

Hoekstra said the report, completed in April but only declassified now, shows that "there is still a lot about Iraq that we don't fully understand."

Asked why the Bush administration, if it had known about the information since April or earlier, didn't advertise it, Hoekstra conjectured that the president has been forward-looking and concentrating on the development of a secure government in Iraq.

Offering the official administration response to FOX News, a senior Defense Department official pointed out that the chemical weapons were not in useable conditions.

"This does not reflect a capacity that was built up after 1991," the official said, adding the munitions "are not the WMDs this country and the rest of the world believed Iraq had, and not the WMDs for which this country went to war."

The official said the findings did raise questions about the years of weapons inspections that had not resulted in locating the fairly sizeable stash of chemical weapons. And he noted that it may say something about Hussein's intent and desire. The report does suggest that some of the weapons were likely put on the black market and may have been used outside Iraq.

He also said that the Defense Department statement shortly after the March 2003 invasion saying that "we had all known weapons facilities secured," has proven itself to be untrue.

"It turned out the whole country was an ammo dump," he said, adding that on more than one occasion, a conventional weapons site has been uncovered and chemical weapons have been discovered mixed within them.

Hoekstra and Santorum lamented that Americans were given the impression after a 16-month search conducted by the Iraq Survey Group that the evidence of continuing research and development of weapons of mass destruction was insignificant. But the National Ground Intelligence Center took up where the ISG left off when it completed its report in November 2004, and in the process of collecting intelligence for the purpose of force protection for soldiers and sailors still on the ground in Iraq, has shown that the weapons inspections were incomplete, they and others have said.

"We know it was there, in place, it just wasn't operative when inspectors got there after the war, but we know what the inspectors found from talking with the scientists in Iraq that it could have been cranked up immediately, and that's what Saddam had planned to do if the sanctions against Iraq had halted and they were certainly headed in that direction," said Fred Barnes, editor of The Weekly Standard and a FOX News contributor.

"It is significant. Perhaps, the administration just, they think they weathered the debate over WMD being found there immediately and don't want to return to it again because things are otherwise going better for them, and then, I think, there's mindless resistance to releasing any classified documents from Iraq," Barnes said.

The release of the declassified materials comes as the Senate debates Democratic proposals to create a timetable for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq. The debate has had the effect of creating disunity among Democrats, a majority of whom shrunk Wednesday from an amendment proposed by Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts to have troops to be completely withdrawn from Iraq by the middle of next year.

At the same time, congressional Republicans have stayed highly united, rallying around a White House that has seen successes in the last couple weeks, first with the death of terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, then the completion of the formation of Iraq's Cabinet and then the announcement Tuesday that another key Al Qaeda in Iraq leader, "religious emir" Mansour Suleiman Mansour Khalifi al-Mashhadani, or Sheik Mansour, was also killed in a U.S. airstrike.

Santorum pointed out that during Wednesday's debate, several Senate Democrats said that no weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq, a claim, he said, that the declassified document proves is untrue.

"This is an incredibly — in my mind — significant finding. The idea that, as my colleagues have repeatedly said in this debate on the other side of the aisle, that there are no weapons of mass destruction, is in fact false," he said.

As a result of this new information, under the aegis of his chairmanship, Hoekstra said he is going to ask for more reporting by the various intelligence agencies about weapons of mass destruction.

"We are working on the declassification of the report. We are going to do a thorough search of what additional reports exist in the intelligence community. And we are going to put additional pressure on the Department of Defense and the folks in Iraq to more fully pursue a complete investigation of what existed in Iraq before the war," Hoekstra said.

How does outrage over men photographed while posed naked in compromising positions with underwear on their heads compare to their treatment by the Islamo Fascists savages? The joke of it is that the savages think they are not savages. Of course they've been living and dying with their throats slit, their hearts cut out and their genitals stuffed in their mouths since the beginning of time. They have never NOT been savages and this is their way of life.

If Americans don't want themselves and their children to live and die this way, they better get their heads out of their behinds and start to admit that EVIL does exist in this world. And they better start believing that if evil says it wants you and your ways and your life eradicated, and you and your freedom and your religion dead, that evil means to make good on what it is shouting at you. There is no one but the USA and its united coalition who is willing and able to tame that level of evil.

The is the most horror that the savages have left in them to scare the US Coalition forces away. They are losing the fight against freedom and that makes them even more desperate. This is the pulling out of all the stops--it's not the time for us to abandon the fight. It's time to step it up. Not only keep Guantanamo open (I don't care if we open other covert prisons around the world), but let's fill Guantanamo to the brim with terrorists. It's a matter of principle.

An Open Letter from Mayor Lou Barletta:

I believe the United States of America is the greatest nation on Earth. People who are in this country have an incredible amount of opportunities and blessings. But some people have taken advantage of America’s openness and tolerance. Some come to this country and refuse to learn English, creating a language barrier for city employees. Others enter the country illegally and use government services by not paying taxes or by committing crime on our streets, further draining resources here in Hazleton.

Illegal immigration leads to higher crime rates, contributes to overcrowded classrooms and failing schools, subjects our hospitals to fiscal hardship and legal residents to substandard quality of care, and destroys our neighborhoods and diminishes our overall quality of life.

The City of Hazleton is empowered and mandated by the people of Hazleton to abate the nuisance of illegal immigration by aggressively prohibiting and punishing the acts, policies, people and businesses that aid and abet illegal aliens. That is why I proposed the Illegal Immigration Relief Act.

Part of this ordinance, if enacted, would punish companies that hire illegal immigrants by denying them permits, making it harder for them to renew permits and forcing their loss of city business.

Another part would hold landlords accountable. Because people moving into the city naturally require a place to sleep, our landlords are our first line of defense. Landlords who rent to illegal immigrants—that is, who rent to people without checking their documentation, may be fined $1,000.00 for every illegal immigrant staying on their properties.

The final part of this ordinance makes English the official language of Hazleton. All city documents will only be available in English. Those applying for a permit would have to speak English. While our emergency services will never be denied to anyone because of a language barrier, every other aspect of city business will be conducted only in English. Let me be clear, this ordinance is intended to make Hazleton one of the most difficult places in the U.S. for illegal immigrants.

This measure is not racist because it does not target one particular race. The Illegal Immigration Relief Act is intended to deter and punish any illegal immigration in the City of Hazleton. Requiring the use of English does not target any other language; it merely states that no matter what language you prefer to speak at home, English will be spoken when you conduct business with Hazleton officials.

Illegal Immigration is a drain on city resources. Every domestic incident, every traffic accident, every noise complaint, each time we send our police department, fire department or code enforcement officer to respond, it costs taxpayer dollars.

If the City of Hazleton began publishing official documents or conducting business in a second language, how would we respond when someone asks us to use a third, or fourth language?

Recent crimes – the shooting on Chestnut Street, the discharge of firearms at the Pine Street Playground, and high profile drug busts – have involved illegal immigrants. Sadly, some of those allegedly involved in those crimes were detained by other law enforcement officials over the years, but were somehow allowed to remain in this country. They eventually migrated into Hazleton, where they helped create a sense of fear in the good, hardworking residents who are here legally.

This ordinance does not roll back the welcome mat to those who are legally in the United States. This country was built on the backs of legal immigrants. My own great grandparents came to this country seeking a better life. Rather, this ordinance seeks to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into Hazleton. They are not welcome here!

To the residents of Hazleton, I say thank you for your continued support. Hazleton is moving forward and becoming an even better place to live. To our recently arrived legal immigrants, I say welcome. I personally wish you all the best. With hard work and determination, the United States and Hazleton can be a place where your dreams come true. And to illegal immigrants and those who would hire or abet them in any way, I say your time is up. You are no longer welcome.

Senators To Vote To Protect Our Flag From Desecration

Contact your senator and urge him or her to vote to pass this amendment when it comes out of the Judiciary Committee and to the Senate floor sometime this month--in time for the 4th of July, hopefully. Looks like they could end up one vote short if everyone shows up to vote, so they need to know how we feel--and how strongly we feel about it--so they can represent us on the floor of the Senate.

It's high time we do something significant to publicly affirm allegiance to our Country and its symbols. After all, we are all Americans first and everything else second.

Get a load of Joe Biden's (D-Del) comments in the last paragraph....too much governmental power in defining "desecration?" Always has to go just a little higher profile than everyone else. What a Potsie!

Senate committee approves flag amendment

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate Judiciary Committee gave a nod Thursday to a constitutional amendment to protect the American flag from desecration, moving it to the Senate floor where vote-counters on both sides say it could be within one vote of passing.

The 11-7 vote sent the amendment to the floor. Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., has said the measure will get a Senate vote this month.

To be considered during the patriotic season between this week's Flag Day and the Fourth of July, the amendment's substance and timing is designed to appeal to veterans during this year of midterm elections.

"The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States," the amendment reads. To become the Constitution's 28th amendment, the language must be approved by two-thirds of those present in each chamber, then ratified within seven years by at least 38 state legislatures.

The House a year ago passed the bill 286-130, more than the required two-thirds of those present to pass. Vote-counters on both sides of the issue say the amendment has commitments of support from 66 senators, one fewer than the required 67 votes if all 100 members of the chamber are present.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was the lone committee Democrat to vote for the measure, saying its language was designed to both protect the flag and First Amendment free speech protections.

The committee also rejected an amendment by Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., to replace "desecration" with specific types of defilement. Using the word desecration, he said, would leave the government too much power to define the term.

In-State Tuition and Soc Sec Bennies for Illegals?

I'd have never believed that our President would sign an agreement (called a totalization agreement) with Mexico that would, in effect, add every Mexican and his entire extended family to the list of those eligible to receive USA Social Security benefits!

Now, I thought we were bewailing Social Security fiscal problems and lack of stability in the system, and that we were unable to find a solution to its inability to cover those under age 50 who have contributed to the fund but for whom benefits might not exist! Hot damn! But we managed to find a way to add all of Mexico to it rolls?

Well, Rep John Culberson (R-TX), doesn't think so. He added 2 amendments (Click Here) to the FY2007 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill that is coming up for vote next week. His first amendment would eliminate this bleeding heart Social Security hand-out to those gazillions of illegal non-citizens.

His second amendment would stop states from providing federal money to aid illegal aliens by offsetting college and universitys full tuition so that they, the illegals, could pay the lower In-State tuition rate.

Most people think that if worthy law-abiding US citizens from outside a state cannot get in-state tuition rates, it is beyond ridiculous to give the discounted tuition rate to people who are in this country in defiance of our immigration laws. (Where has all the common sense gone? Gone to graveyards every one. ) Hey, here's another great spot for a round-up, INS. You'll recognize them easily: they're the ones standing in line at your local university with their hands out and the same social security number on each and every social security card.

Here's what Culberson had to say about the White House's totalization agreement with Mexico, ... "Unfortunately, the Administration signed a totalization agreement with Mexico on June 29, 2004, and the White House will not let Congress see it, which makes me very suspicious. Reliable reports tell me that this agreement will put every illegal alien from Mexico and their entire extended family anywhere in the world on our overburdened Social Security system. I strenuously oppose the effort to legalize illegal aliens through the Senate bill, and I will vigorously oppose any effort to open up our Social Security system to illegal aliens and their families through this totalization agreement. The Appropriations Committee agreed with me today that we should not place this immense and totally unfair burden on our Social Security system."

Colorado Gov Says Let The People Vote On State Services For Illegals

DENVER -- Gov. Bill Owens said Tuesday he will call a special legislative session unless the Colorado Supreme Court reverses its "arrogant" decision to throw out a November ballot measure that would ask voters to deny most state services to illegal immigrants.

Owens, a term-limited Republican, said the court imposes its own views in Monday's decision.

"In my opinion, the court's decision was inconsistent, it was inappropriate, and yes, I even believe it was arrogant," Owens said.

The governor asked the court to overturn its decision, but acknowledged there is little chance that will happen once the state files its request. He said he will give the court about two weeks.

The proposed constitutional amendment would not stop the state from paying for federally mandated services such as public education or emergency medical care. But supporters said it would prevent illegal immigrants from receiving welfare and in-state college tuition. They have declined to list all the services that would be affected, saying the list would be "almost endless."

In a 4-2 ruling Monday with one justice abstaining, the court said the measure cannot appear on the Nov. 7 ballot because it violates a requirement in the state constitution that initiatives deal with only one subject.

Rep. Jim Riesberg, D-Greeley, said he didn't think enough legislators would support a referenda to get one on the ballot. The General Assembly passed several bills this spring regarding immigration and human trafficking.

"Basically, (immigration) is not a state issue, it's a federal issue, and I think the state did a pretty good job on the few things it could do," Riesberg said.

He said the initiative was so broad in scope that illegal immigrants could technically be excluded from any service or function that is paid for by government.

"I'm thinking of the Friday Fest in downtown (Greeley). That is funded by the city," Riesberg said. "How would you prevent undocumented people from going to that? Do you now have somebody checking passports at every city function? I don't know how a bill like that could ever be enforced."

Rep. Dale Hall, R-Greeley, said that might be a stretch, but he agreed the law could be tough to regulate.

"I don't know how it would be enforced other than to verify citizenship," he said.

Hall signed the letter Republican lawmakers sent to Gov. Bill Owens Tuesday, asking him to call a special session. He said he didn't agree with the high court's decision that the initiative contained more than one topic, which is unconstitutional in Colorado.

"It's an attempt to try to make it more visible that we're utilizing state tax dollars only for medically necessary or federally mandated requirements," Hall said of the measure.

Most state benefits are already inaccessible to illegal immigrants, but Hall said some occasionally "slip through the cracks."

Defend Colorado Now, the group behind the measure, had already gathered more than 30,000 of the 68,000 voters' signatures required, but it cannot start over with a revised proposal because a key deadline has passed.

Owens said he believed the court, which got the case in January and the facts of the case in March, deliberately delayed a decision until after it was too late for proponents to get a measure on the ballot.

Republican lawmakers asked Owens to call a special session and give lawmakers a last-ditch opportunity to get the initiative back on the ballot. It would take a two-thirds vote in both houses, controlled by Democrats, to get it on the ballot.

What a bull***t resolution HCON 123 is! Here're a bunch of Congressmen/women trying to appease a big block of sex radicals using our children--students--as their pawns. Since when do responsible adults pass useless resolves involving our children in support of various non-mainstream (and I'm being kind here) sexual practices?(Transgender? Yep, lots of exposure to them in our nations's elementary schools.)

Leave the kids out of your PC/DC negotiating please, you guys! You aren't asking for any legal remedy. You are merely less than forthright about your lobbying to support a position on a topic that deserves a much higher level of individual delicacy and privacy. And which needn't involve children.

We already have laws protecting everyone from harassment and descrimination. Simply enforce them to protect us all--equally--from those who would do us harm.

A kids' new "day of silence" in school is a PC political tool and an obvious attempt at influencing values and beliefs of those who are legally too young to have formed their opinion or to give sexual "consent." It's completely inappropriate, insensitive to the kids' own formulation of values and beliefs, not to mention that the whole thing is an agenda-driven manipulation of minors in their formative years.

Can these idiots we elected (Mr. ENGEL (for himself, Mr. OWENS, Ms. BALDWIN, Mr. WEXLER, Mr. MEEHAN, Mr. FARR, Ms. WOOLSEY, Ms. NORTON, Mr. DELAHUNT, and Ms. SCHAKOWSKY) ) actually believe that "using" our kids on this kind of topic is a great idea?

No, I think not. The groups they are bargaining with have an agenda and this is one tactic that they slipped past us under the guise of "kindness" and "sensitivity" that is meant to affect the next generation's acceptance of these non-mainstream practices. Don't you wonder what they expect from the gay gestapo in return?

By their own admission, less than 20 per cent of a very small segment of the general population (2-4%?) could even possibly be part of the group. Yet, they want us to believe that there is such nation-wide rampant harassment of these folks within our elementary and secondary school walls that all school children need an attitude adjustment about it--even kindergarteners?

Make no mistake. This is an attack on the nation's children by a radical sex gestapo! We (and those sponsoring this and any similar resolution) should ask:

What restrictions are to be placed on the content and type of any sensitvity programming that will be imposed on the little ones? Who's watching these programs and those putting them together? Does anyone even know what's happening in the schools on April 13 each year? (You KNOW this is going to come up again and again until they can get it into the national curriculum!)
Who decided that programs and activities supporting deviant sexual practices are more appropriate in elementary school than, say, Christmas ones? Tax dollars are being spent in both cases.

Well, I say, "NO!" to this waste of time and energies. Teachers should understand that the other 98% of the general population wants them to get back to teaching academic subjects to their students and leave all value training to those at home. You know, the people legally responsible for their minor children's behavior.

All I know is, that if I'm legally and morally responsible for my children's actions, I want to be the one to set the standards and moral compass for them to follow. I surely don't want a teacher messing around in my children's value system, undoing my efforts, and possibly confusing them.

Actually, a teacher has no legal "interest" in doing so anyway. And unless he or she wants to plant a random value of his or her own, there really is no reason for a teacher to desire personal involvement with a student at that level. Teachers have enough to do in the course of a day. This brings me to mention briefly another of my favorite topics: boundaries. They are a good thing, and not touted nearly often enough, so if you don't have any, you should do yourself a favor: develop as quickly as possible some personal boundaries that protect your body and your own self-interest.

What it comes down to, I think, is that the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, in partnership with the United States Student Association are the groups that need a major attitude adjustment, not the minor children of the USA.

Why not a day of silence to bring attention to the harassment and discrimination of college students who hold conservative views? I hear they can't get a break from their professors and/or fellow college student body to a greater degree than any radical sexual group in any US elementary or high school.

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

Supporting the goals and ideals of the Day of Silence with respect to discrimination and harassment faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals in schools.

Whereas the Day of Silence is a day on which students take a vow to remain silent for a full day in order bring attention to the harassment and discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals in schools, including students, teachers, and other school staff;

Whereas the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, in partnership with the United States Student Association, has designated April 13, 2005, as the Day of Silence;

Whereas more than 300,000 students from more than 3,000 junior and high schools participated in the Day of Silence in 2004;

Whereas the 2003 Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network National School Climate Survey illustrates the pervasive harassment and victimization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students;

Whereas more than 80 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students have been verbally harassed at school by their peers because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;

Whereas in 2003, nearly 20 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students were physically assaulted by their peers at school because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;

Whereas almost 40 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students reported that faculty and staff never intervene when homophobic language is used in their presence;

Whereas almost 30 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students reported missing at least one entire school day in the last month because they felt unsafe;

Whereas lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who experienced verbal harassment because of their sexual orientation at least some of the time were twice as likely to report that they did not plan to attend college than youth who never or rarely experienced such harassment;

Whereas unchecked harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression may have a negative impact on student academic performance such that grade point averages may be significantly lower;

Whereas 42 States do not have laws protecting lesbian, gay, and bisexual students from discrimination or harassment that occurs at school because of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;

Whereas 47 States do not have laws protecting students from discrimination or harassment because of their gender identity or expression when it occurs at school;

Whereas every child should be guaranteed an education free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression; and

Whereas April 13, 2005, would be an appropriate day to observe the Day of Silence: Now, therefore, be it;

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress--
(1) supports the goals and ideals of the Day of Silence;
(2) requests that the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe the Day of Silence with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities; and
(3) encourages each city and State to adopt laws to prohibit discrimination and harassment against students, teachers, and other school staff on the basis that they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered so that our schools are institutions where all individuals are able to focus on learning.

Stop The ACLU was started on February 9th, 2004. We started with high hopes, and we realized we were facing a goliath.

There were many reasons why we thought the ACLU needed to be countered, and they are numerous. We wanted to provide a way to inform the public of the ACLU’s agenda, as the MSM sugar coated it. We wanted to be a central database for people to gather, exchange ideas, and get actively involved in real ways of stopping them. It is a monumental task, exhausting, time consuming, and often frustrating. But it is a fight worth fighting.

We would be nothing without our supporters. To all of you, we appreciate the continued support. We have called you to action and you have answered. We raised $2,500.00 for an ad in the Washington Times, and I want to announce at this time that the check is in the mail as of Wednessday, Nov 8th. The ad should appear within the next two weeks. When it does, it will be scanned, and put up at Stop The ACLU for all to see. We will call you to action again, and again, and it is good to know that you will answer the call because you believe in this cause.

The ACLU have been laying low lately, but that is no reason to grow complacent. It is now that we should prepare to counter them. The Christmas season is around the corner, and the ACLU will be full force. Get involved in Operation Nativity.
There are many reasons to stop the ACLU. For this blogburst I decided to list my top ten list.

10. The ACLU was founded by Communist, with communist ideals, communist goals, and they continue to impose a
Communist like agenda on America daily.
The founder of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin stated clearly…"My chief aversion is the system of greed, private profit, privilege and violence which makes up the control of the world today, and which has brought it to the tragic crisis of unprecedented hunger and unemployment…Therefore, I am for Socialism, disarmament and ultimately, for the abolishing of the State itself…I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”

9. The ACLU does not believe in the Second Amendment.
ACLU POLICY “The ACLU agrees with the Supreme Court’s long-standing interpretation of the Second Amendment [as set forth in the 1939 case, U.S. v. Miller] that the individual’s right to bear arms applies only to the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia. Except for lawful police and military purposes, the possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected. Therefore, there is no constitutional impediment to the regulation of firearms.”ACLU Policy #47

#8. Their outright hatred of the Boyscouts.
They are currently doing everything in their power to hurt this organization. They attacked their free speech right to exclude gays, and are threatening schools, and fighting in court to get their charters shut down. The oppose the military supporting them, and will sue the pants off any school that attempts to charter them.

#7. The ACLU are pro-death. Not only is the ACLU Pro-abortion, it’s the ACLU’s top priority.
It most definitely takes a backseat to free speech for the ACLU. As a matter of fact, the ACLU has fought against the free speech rights of those that oppose it. If its abortion or euthanasia, as long as its pro-death you can count on the ACLU to support it. The only exception to the ACLU’s pro-death stance, is if it is a convicted criminal; in this case they are against death.

#6. The ACLU advocate open borders.
Not only have the ACLU opposed the Minute Men, a group who are simply exercizing their freedom of speech, protesting and stepping up where the government is failing, but they have helped illegals cross the border.

#5. The ACLU is anti-Christian.
The list is endless on this one. Under the guise of “seperation of Church and State”, the ACLU have made a name for theirself on being rabidly anti-Christian. This is one area where they are most hypocritical. They oppose tax exemptions for all churches, but fight for them for Wiccans. They are against Christianity in school, but oddly remain silent as our children are taught to be Muslims. Whether its baby Jesus, ten commandments, or tiny crosses on county seals, the ACLU will be there to secularize America, and rewrite our history.

#4. The ACLU Opposes National Security.
The ACLU have opposed almost every effort in the arena of national security. From the bird flu to bag searches, the ACLU have been against it. No matter what kind of search someone tries to do to protect people, the ACLU have proved they are against them across the board. Its kind of ironic that they don’t practice the principles they preach.

Take a walk into the NYCLU’s Manhattan headquarters - which it shares with other organizations - and you’ll find a sign warning visitors that all bags are subject to search.

#3. The ACLU Defend the enemy.
They have a long history of this one. They defended the P.L.O. in 1985. They defended Quadafi in the 1980’s. And they continue today. They have told Gitmo detainees they have the right to remain silent, as in not talking to interrogators. One issue that really disturbs me is their refusal of funds from organizations such as the United Way that were concerned the money would be used to support terrorism.

In October of 2004, the ACLU turned down $1.15 million in funding from two of it’s most generous and loyal contributors, the Ford and Rockefeller foundations, saying new anti-terrorism restrictions demanded by the institutions make it unable to accept their funds.

“The Ford Foundation now bars recipients of its funds from engaging in any activity that “promotes violence, terrorism, bigotry, or the destruction of any state.”

The Rockefeller Foundation’s provisions state that recipients of its funds may not “directly or indirectly engage in, promote, or support other organizations or individuals who engage in or promote terrorist activity.”

#2. The ACLU supports child porn distribution and child molesters like NAMBLA.
As legislative counsel for the ACLU in 1985, Barry Lynn told the U.S. Attorney General’s Commission on Pornography (of which Focus on the Family President Dr. James C. Dobson was a member) that child pornography was protected by the First Amendment. While production of child porn could be prevented by law, he argued, its distribution could not be.

There is no doubt the The ACLU are perverting the Constitution.

Where is the outrage and worldwide media investigation about the American and allied countries' civilians killed in Iraq? The outrage is all about the "poor" known terrorists in Gitmo (outdoors and walking around free), not about the men who have been fighting FOR freedom and liberty against the terrorists--and who probably are innocent--but are currently sitting in the Camp Pendleton brig in shackles.

It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. What Hollywood Taught You About American Soldiers

This is a rather long (extremely worthwhile) excerpt written by Orson Scott Card. The full article can be found here in The Onery American. I like it. In fact, I like it like it.

This is not a "skimming" article but a reading and thinking piece. Mr Card rationally makes the points that we scream at our television with all the emotion of someone who knows they are talking to the wall. He's right and there's so much more to cite.

...Donald Rumsfeld did not go down to the Pentagon with a blank purchase order on which the generals could write down their wishes, which it would be Rumsfeld's job to grant.

Instead, he went there as one of the most accomplished and conniving bureaucratic maneuverers ever to work in Washington -- and that's saying something.

Rumsfeld had an agenda, partly derived from President Bush and partly from his own experience in the past. Rumsfeld knew that the military, if left to itself, would choke on its own institutional debris.

For all fulltime professional military cultures share some common traits. For one thing, during peacetime, it is not the great military leaders who rise, it is the conniving bureaucratic generals. As a conniving bureaucrat himself, Rumsfeld knew exactly whom he was dealing with, and he was better at the game. (Plus, he had the ear of the Commander-in-Chief, and he was a civilian.)

So all the standard means by which a Washington bureaucracy captures and coopts its politically-appointed "leaders" simply did not work on Rumsfeld. They could not get around him. They could not delay and obfuscate and bloviate until he went away. When he said "hop," he kept watching until he saw some hopping behavior.

Now, Rumsfeld is no fool. His agenda was to remake the military into a force that could deal with modern asymmetrical warfare -- where a big country (us) must deal with a teeny-weeny country or a nontraditional military.

And there were people already in the military who knew exactly how to do the job. How to create a highly mobile, effective force that could, openly or clandestinely, counter terrorism, insurgency, guerrilla warfare, warlords, or rogue states.

Rumsfeld found those people. Rumsfeld made sure they were listened to.

Some of them had been struggling for years to get the bureaucratic generals to listen to them. But the old ways of warfare were so thoroughly intrenched that they could barely be budged.

Rumsfeld budged them.

The result was a general change in doctrine and organization that required, for instance, Navy and Air Force pilots to be in direct contact with ground troops -- not with generals, but with captains and lieutenants and squad leaders on the ground.

Small groups of highly-trained soldiers were inserted into remote areas where they became friends with the local citizens and earned their trust, until the locals began to tell them where the guerrillas or terrorists were hiding and what the best way was to get to them.

As a result, they stopped preparing for the last war and actually began to prepare for the war that they were soon called upon to fight in Afghanistan and, after the initial conquest, in Iraq.

Oh, that conquest of Iraq -- that was traditional warfare. That's what these generals were trained to fight. But they hated Rumsfeld's meddling. They knew how to do this.

It was only after that war ended, and the occupation began, that we began to see what had already been amply demonstrated in Afghanistan, if anyone had cared to notice:

In asymmetrical warfare, you cannot win until and unless you have allies, small and large, among the locals. There is no quantity or strength or targeting of cruise missiles that will accomplish anything compared to what you can do with a couple of Farsi-speaking Special Ops soldiers who have earned the respect and trust of villagers. When those villagers believe that they will be protected from reprisals and that these soldiers don't mean to rule over them, then they will help.

The war in Afghanistan was fought (and continues to be fought) through the use of U.S. soldiers of many different ranks who know and care about the people they're working with, and can help them fight their own war for civilization and against the forces of tyranny or anarchy.

But that kind of war has no glory in it ... at least not for generals.

Think of what happened to these recently retired generals. They kept their mouths shut and took orders and survived all the bureaucratic maneuvering and all the promotion boards to finally get to a position of real authority in the military. To be a general was like being king. You could make stuff happen!

And suddenly, because of Donald Rumsfeld, they found that most of the interesting work was being done by small groups who were trained by remote and obscure branches of the service. You went to Baghdad and sat in an office and gradually realized that you were almost completely interchangeable with any other general officer, because it was at much lower levels that the interesting and important decisions were being made and actions were being taken.

They couldn't blame Bush. But they could blame Rumsfeld. After all, he was the one they could see. They heard rumors about how generals withered under his scorn. How he not only gave orders, but also checked up on compliance and made life hell for people who resisted him on issues he cared about (which are, of course, all of them).

Where Are the Pro-Rumsfeld Generals?

Not all generals responded this way, of course. In fact, most of them recognized that what they were seeing was a revolutionary change, mostly for the better.

Not entirely. We still have an Air Force that is being pressed by Congress into buying an airplane that is too expensive to be usable in battle; but that's not Rumsfeld's fault, and they know it.

No, I daresay that most officers, while they might disagree with this or that idea of Rumsfeld's (or Bush's!), recognize that this is the best civilian leadership the military has had since Eisenhower was President.

But somehow the Establishment isn't quoting any of them.

Partly, I suspect, because the officers who respect Rumsfeld and recognize the greatness of his achievement -- moving the military to change itself! -- are still in service or, having retired, have no motivation at all to pick up the phone and call a reporter.

What would they say? "Oh, Mr. New York Times Reporter, I want to tell you how great a job I think Mr. Rumsfeld is doing and how well I think the war is going in Iraq."

They couldn't even finish that sentence before they heard the dial tone again. Remember, the press hates the military -- they just hate Bush and his administration more.

How Much Do They Hate Our Soldiers?

It isn't just the press, of course. It's the entertainment media -- just as much a part of the Establishment, and thrilled to take opportunities to spread anti-Bush propaganda.

Of course, the obvious ones, like David E. Kelley with his endless, unfunny, and lying attacks on the Bush administration in Boston Legal, are not terribly effective.

There is, however, a much subtler campaign going on -- which may, in fact, not be a campaign at all, but simply a natural response to the extreme leftist and anti-American culture that permeates the Establishment in Hollywood.

Here's where it shows up:

On Prison Break (a terrific show, by the way), one of the prisoners was a soldier in Iraq, where he was an expert at "getting" stuff that superior officers wanted -- good liquor, for instance. Black marketeering, technically -- but a time-honored tradition in all military organizations.

As a reward, he is given a cushy, you-won't-get-killed assignment as a guard over prisoners of war. But he overhears some American officer torturing somebody, and he reports it.

When he refuses to recant, he is arrested and given a dishonorable discharge for black marketeering -- by the very officer who asked him to get him stuff. Why? To silence him and stop him from exposing the systematic torture going on in the military prison.

Now, to anyone who gives this a moment's thought, this is a silly idea. If our military were really carrying out systematic torture, then (1) they would not assign an untrusted person to be within earshot of it; (2) if someone did discover it, they would (being brutal and immoral) kill him -- nothing is simpler than killing somebody in war and claiming it was enemy action that got him; and (3) they would never give him a dishonorable discharge, since that would send him home to where he would have no trouble at all getting the academic-intellectual-media Establishment to listen to his charges and publish them.

But quite apart from the absurdity of this, here is the real damage: Prison Break doesn't make a big deal about the use of torture. It takes it for granted that of course our military is torturing people.

Now take Lost -- one of the best shows in the history of television. They have the character Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews), who was a torturer in the Iraqi military. So far so good -- he's a fascinating, complicated, tormented character because he managed to keep his conscience but can't get rid of his memories.

But apparently somebody said something scornful to a Lost writer about how they must have been pressured by the government not to tell the "truth." Yeah, they said, you can show Iraqi torturers, but nothing about American torturers.

So, to be fair and evenhanded (they suppose), they do another flashback episode in Sayid's story in which his first experience as a torturer is actually under the direction of Americans who captured him during the Gulf War back in 1991.

In other words, the Iraqi torturer learned torture from American soldiers.

Again, there is no open outrage about this -- these are not shallow propagandists like David E. Kelley. They just take it for granted that American soldiers torture people.

A third example: 24. Again, a brilliantly effective show. They show a Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) that has a torturer on staff, ready, by the use of drugs or brutality, to extract needed information on an emergency basis -- from anyone, including American citizens.

Moreover, the leading character, Jack, does his own ad hoc torture -- "off the books" -- in order to get results. Totally justified, because of course there's such time pressure to finish the whole thing in twenty-four one-hour episodes.

Ostensibly, 24 doesn't even seem to be against the use of torture. But they show it as a routine policy instrument of the U.S. government.

Here's the truth: Torture, per se, doesn't work. When you inflict enough pain, most people say whatever they need to say in order to make it stop. While those strong enough to resist it, die without telling anything true.

And if you use drugs, what you get are fantasy answers -- in the dream-state of drugs, the answers you get aren't particularly reliable.

In short, torture doesn't work.

What does work is deception -- threats, yes, but also reframing the world of the prisoner being interrogated so that telling you what you need to know comes to make perfect sense.

It's like the old myth that you can't hypnotize anyone to do something he doesn't want to do. For instance, you can't tell a hypnosis patient to take of her clothes in front of a room full of people. True enough -- but you can tell her that she is coming home from a hot day of outdoor activities and she can't wait to get into the shower, and here's the shower, and ... and the clothes come right off, if the trance is deep enough.

Reframing is not torture. Lying is not torture. They are legitimate means of gaining urgently needed true information from the people who have it.

A Climate of Loathing

It is arguable that 24 is pro-military and pro-American. But the effect of these three shows is to plant and reinforce the idea in the minds of the viewers of the program that the American government and the American military torture prisoners whenever they need to. And if the namby-pamby higherups won't authorize it, the guys in the field will do it themselves, without authority, in order to save America.

What are the consequences of making this belief "common knowledge"?

1. People who have fantasies of torturing people will be more likely to join the military and law enforcement organizations than they already are, thinking that the torture they long to inflict will be excused or even authorized. As a result, our soldiers and police have to serve alongside an increasing percentage of dangerous wackos.

2. Americans learn to think of our own soldiers with a kind of sick dread -- did you have to torture anybody when you were in the military? And when the soldier looks at them like they're insane and says, "No, of course not, I killed them directly, in battle, you idiot, because they were shooting at me," the person pats his hand and says, "I understand, you can't talk about it."

3. These TV shows are picked up and shown in foreign countries, where anti-American sentiments are fueled by the fact that even American shows depict American soldiers as torturers -- so who can doubt it now? Therefore, if an American soldier is captured, his captors will be perfectly justified in torturing him, won't they?

This might be justified if, in fact, there were any evidence that American soldiers or police used torture as an instrument of policy -- i.e., that people with legitimate authority use torture.

There are rumors that the CIA has used client states that do torture in order to get around U.S. prohibitions; but what the people who spread this belief forget is that these soldiers -- and CIA agents -- are Americans.

What American Soldiers Do

In the real world, not the paranoid fantasies of anti-Patriot-Act mouth-frothers, there is not a shred of evidence that America is using torture anywhere. Not even in Guantanamo.

And if we learn anything from the aberrant events at Abu Ghraib, it's this: If wacko mistreatment of prisoners is going on, it can't be kept secret.

American soldiers are not perfect. In the heat of battle, terrible things are done. There really is such a thing as blood-lust, the berserker mentality in which adrenalin-charged people carry out appalling acts of slaughter, and Americans are not immune to it.

There are also sick or evil people who use war as an excuse to indulge their immoral desires.

These things happen in all armies, throughout all of history. And in many cultures, such acts are institutionalized. Many American Indian tribes routinely tortured prisoners; the Spanish Inquisition really happened.

What is remarkable about American soldiers is that, on average, there has never been a more humane group of soldiers in the history of the world. Sure, Yanks have been resented as occupiers or conquerors -- what occupiers or conquerors have not been?

But our soldiers are far more often cheered as liberators or at least tolerated as decent guys trying to do their jobs well. Even in Iraq, though the mainstream media do their best to pretend these things don't happen, there are countless incidents that show that many, perhaps most, Iraqis and Afghanis are grateful for the presence of American soldiers.

American soldiers have died or risked death to save civilian lives. They have also served the civilian population in many other highly visible ways. Many Iraqis -- perhaps most -- trust an American soldier more than any other figure in their country right now.

Yet somehow most charges of widespread torture by Americans in Iraq come from insane anti-American Americans, like Ramsey Clark and his ilk. Most Iraqis know they have been liberated from a terror state, not had a new one imposed on them.

With our highly targetable weaponry, America has virtually renounced damage to civilians as a method of war. In our ground engagements, our soldiers are able to be far more selective in targeting than any army in history.

No army has ever been as self-restrained as our army is today. And that is not because of pressure from the Left. It's because our soldiers are decent American citizens who are serving their country, not getting vengeance or indulging authority fantasies.

So these charges of torture, so carelessly and negligently made by our leading television writers, are being applied to Americans who are innocent of such offenses.

Yet foreigners are being convinced that Americans are all torturers, because our own TV shows admit it; and it is hardly far-fetched to say that this creates part of the climate from which our terrorist enemies recruit their bombers. Indeed, I think it is fair to say that there will be an undeniable causal chain from these charges of torture to dead American, military and otherwise.

Who Are the Sellouts?

After all, watching glamorous actors smoke leads people to smoke -- we know it happened. The stories we share as entertainment play an enormous role in shaping the moral worldview of our own culture -- and any other culture that receives our entertainment media.

So when the Establishment slanders these American soldiers, exposing them to greater risk of death or betrayal or, if captured, torture, it is not just "entertainment." It is a gross evil being perpetrated against those who are risking most in defense of our civilization.

How long would these television writers last -- as writers, anyway -- under a government led by a Saddam or an Osama or the Taliban? They can only write such slanders against their own nation's troops in a free country defended by soldiers like ours.

There are consequences to the things that writers write and actors portray. Yet so anti-American has the culture of Hollywood become that apparently nobody on the set, nobody in the production company, nobody in the networks challenged these episodes that clearly and obviously will lead to people feeling justified in the torture or murder of some (or many) American soldiers?

Propaganda works. Lies, repeated often enough, are perceived as truth. That's why we have an American populace right now that truly believes we are losing one of the best-fought and successful military actions in history. And that's why we will soon live in a world where everyone believes that the best, most self-restrained and decent soldiers in history are the opposite.

And all because, in Hollywood, anyone who makes a tv show that looks too pro-American will be despised for having sold out to "the establishment." That's because, inside the Establishment, the myth persists that the "establishment" is the government and traditional-values Americans.

But this is not so. Traditional-values Americans are despised in Hollywood -- and in Hollywood's work-product -- as religious wackos, or as soldiers who torture, or as rightwing presidents who conspire to take over a country they already run. In doing this, Hollywood merely follows along with the Media Establishment, who are in lockstep with the Academic Establishment that gave them their college degrees in journalism or English.

That is the Establishment to which these writers have completely sold out, having replaced facts and logic with the "common knowledge" of those who shape the opinions of the elite.

And as these false charges of routine, government-sanctioned torture begin to have their effects in the real world, these are the people who will have the blood of our soldiers on their hands. Why? Because they put the good opinion of the Establishment ahead of the lives and safety of our soldiers.

"But we were just writing a TV episode!"

That's right. Just typing. How easily the terrible lies slip out through the fingers onto the page; how noiselessly they slip into the public mind.
