Thank You, Veterans, Founders, Forefathers!

Giving Thanks on the Fourth

We at Townhall.com join with Americans in celebrating this 4th of July and in thanking the men and women of the United States military who have made and continue to make our freedom possible. As Lincoln declared in his second inaugural, all else "chiefly depends" on the progress of our country's arms, and never has the military failed us, and they are again succeeding on many fronts in the global war on terror.

We also join many Americans in thanking God for the blessings He provides us as individuals and as a nation. Again in Lincoln's words, we do well to acknowledge a God who has granted us in so many ways "the choicest bounties of heaven."

Finally we salute again our Founding Fathers for their courage and commitment to liberty, and especially Washington, who led the war and then the peace. The fireworks are magnificent to watch, but much more magnificent is the country over which they sail and which they illuminate.
