Don't Hate Us Because We Help You.... Again

First of all: hats off to the USMC! No other country has so many "few good men!" As usual, our guys showed up and showed everybody else how to get it done. They put forth a fantastic effort--efficient and orderly. Like I said, "as usual." From the halls of Montezuma to (down the road from) the shores of Tripoli....once again! I hope they heard, "Thank You!" or "I take back anything bad I've ever said about your country" from everyone they helped.

I swear, the world does love to hate this country, but whenever ANYONE gets themselves into a pickle, they call us for BIG help and BIG cash. They still love to hate us, and sometimes they even complain that we didn't do or give enough. But, next disaster--natural or man-made--there they are, knocking at the door of the good ol' USA with hands out and real big expectations for us to drop everything to help them.

Somehow they must think we are all rolling in dough here. Au contraire, mes amis!

We WORK hard, and pool our dollars to pay for our security, infrastructure, and our emergencies. Everything our "friends" and "neighbors" get is something we and our children and grandchildren are going to have to pay for out of their tax dollars.

There's no magic in the USA. Just a work ethic to take care of ourselves (collectively) and to help as much as possible our friends and neighbors. Of course, we need to observe a system of laws and courts to keep us orderly and to make sure we don't have to live in the chaos you're looking at in the middle east and Mexico right now.

So, if you see a uniformed American, why not honor his or her efforts this way or this way. Oh, Hell, if you see any American, why don't you thank them, no matter how much a "cowboy" or a "lout" you think they are. Every one of them has given between 20% and 50% of whatever they make for the "pot" from which your financial loans, aid, and gifts come.

Meanwhile, "American Citizens"--whatever THAT means in Beirut--are being hauled out of Lebanon by the thousands--8,000+ strong by the end of Friday. What looked like it was going to be 3,000 tops has turned into probably 15,000 or more. The Marines said they are prepared to stay until the job is done.

And, here's the update part: (See "Free Cruise" entry) the US government (that's us, kids) is footing the whole bill after all.

Our government officials can't come up with enough money to fund putting the promised National Guard on 365 miles of our southern border, even though most of us WANT that to happen.

Instead we get to watch our tax dollars at work helping half-wits without the sense to stay out of a war zone get free passage (back?) to the USA. Some of these "citizens" haven't been here for many, many years--if ever. I understand we are calling people US citizens for purposes of this benefit as long as they carry dual passports. Heads up.... Hezbolla says they're planning to blend with the evacuees to get a free trip and 90 days worth of housing in the good ol' USA. (fx: Head shaking is disbelief.)

STILL--with the most effective evacuation program in Beirut Harbor--"the cadillac effort"--no PR break for the USA from anywhere in the world but at home--and then from only about half of us.
