American Character

"In a word, I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced that we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home." --George Washington

The point of Washington's quote is that we need to create and protect an American Character. Our identity should not be comprised of a "World View" Character, nor a Swiss Character, and nor a European Character. Working with countries that have goals in common with us is a good thing and something we should do, but our decisions have to be Our Decisions in Our Best Interest first and foremost. John Kerry formed his world view while a student in Switzerland. We need a real home-grown American leading us, setting our policies, and making our decisions. In 2004, that would be our very own George W. Bush.
