Hooray For Scotland Yard

Ok. Scotland Yard has arrested in Egypt the ringleader of the terrorist gang responsible for the 7-7 attacks on London. It's been 8 days and they know - and have announced - "who done it" and how it was done. Magdy el-Nashar, an Egyptian, naturally a one-time organic-chemistry student at NC State in Raleigh, USA, has been arrested by Scotland Yard, not in London, but in Cairo!

Now, I ask you: did the Londoners him-and-haw and appoint a commission to see if they themselves were to blame in any way for the attack on their own country? It took a mere 8 days to name the culprits and to go get the ringleader abroad.

How does this compare with our public self-flagelation, sympathy for the terrorist bombers, or the inept non-capture of the ringleaders of the attack on our countrymen four years ago? There's no excuse for us not being as effective as Scotland Yard. Ask yourself, why? Are our own policies getting in the way of progress? Are our national politics defeating our efforts to win the war against terror? Do we not have the intestinal fortitude to say what we mean and mean what we say? Do we share too much information TOO SOON with the media? Do we tip off the perpetrators of evil deeds, in effect, telling them, "We're going to look for you in Egypt or whereever in plenty of time for the perp to buy a ticket to Saudi Arabia instead? The only people who seem to not be tipped off are our related federal defense agencies.

Our troops deserve a pure unadulterated effort from us at home--our police, our elected officials, our citizens including members of the media, our government agencies--to eliminate the terrorists who create terror wherever they go. That's JOB ONE. Our President and his cabinet need to get onto the same page and say so. JOB ONE is the capture the ringleaders of our terrorist enemies. No crapola about maybe hurting their feelings. Our troops have their lives on the line and if we aren't even willing to risk our public image of being less than politically correct by giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt ahead of everyone else, do we deserve their precious sacrifices?

ALL US CITIZENS are in this TOGETHER! How can we possibly offer to protect anyone else if we REFUSE TO DO BETTER protecting ourselves on our own land? Shooting yourself in the foot has never been a really good offensive tactic.
