Tancredo For President in 2008

How is it that the media makes it seem like everyone in this country is either gay or an illegal immigrant? It's absolutely ridiculous to believe that the majority of the US population wants any form of amnesty for the people who came into this country in defiance of the laws of our land. How is it that the same media has latched onto the two most ridiculous claims about illegals' effect on our commerce.

1. They are taking jobs that Americans won't do anymore. Read why that's poppycock here.

2. Well, what are you gonna do? Round up 11 million people and send them home? People are angry they are being ignored. For one example, click here.

As I said earlier, 75% of our population AT THE VERY LEAST will vote for a candidate who wants real border control and who also wants zero amnesty for illegals.

While this is primarily a Mexican problem, there are thousands of immigrants who are here illegally from European countries, other Central and South Americans who travel through Mexico to "fall across our southern border," and there are at least 7 thousand Russian Muslims to whom our government recently gave away FREE US citizenship.

It's a crime against our society, plain and simple. It's in direct violation of laws currently in force--but not enforced--in the USA.

Tom Tancredo of Colorado seems to "get it." I don't know if he's listening better when others are telling anyone who will listen what they want, or if he's just naturally in synch with the US citizenry. Whatever it is, I'm starting to picture him as a 2008 Presidential candidate.

Illegal Immigration

There is no doubt that Colorado and America are facing an illegal immigration crisis. Many people are left wondering what the implications are for an country containing a large number of people who have no legal right to be there and what should be done about the current situation.

Currently, there are about 10 million illegal immigrants living in America. Many came in on visas which subsequently expired, and many simply walked or drove across our border with Mexico or Canada.

Some of my colleagues have recently proposed an amnesty for illegal immigrants as a way of solving this problem. I am absolutely opposed to amnesty in any form. In addition to rewarding people who have broken our laws, amnesties simply do not solve the problem of illegal immigration. In 1986, America tried an amnesty in what was promised to be a once-in-history event.

The 1986 amnesty (and every subsequent mini-amnesty since) have actually encouraged more illegal immigration. The message to would-be illegal immigrants is clear: "If you get into America and keep your head down long enough, we will give you an amnesty." Evidence of this can be found in the fact that today, there are even more illegal immigrants living in America than there were in 1986.

A mini-amnesty called 245(i) has been a popular subject of debate this year. 245(i) - even though its proponents rarely admit that it's an amnesty - is just as detrimental as every other amnesty that has been proposed. You can read more about the details of 245(i) and why it's bad policy.

A better solution to the problem of illegal immigration is a guest worker program. I am in the process of developing a program that would allow employers to use temporary workers in jobs that would otherwise by hard to fill. Unlike other programs that have been discussed, however, my program would require temporary workers to return home after a fixed period of time - ensuring that the program creates a circular flow of labor, not a one way road to America.

Sanctions against employers who continue to hire illegal workers would be increased, and there would be no "earned legalization" or other euphemized amnesty included. I believe that this is the only fair way to solve both an unskilled labor shortage and rampant illegal immigration.
